Malphrus Declares War on Drugs in Jasper County

Since taking office, Jasper County Sheriff Christopher “Chris” Malphrus has carried out a war on drugs to curb the number of criminalities in the locality.

Malphrus, who is seeking another term in office, vows to be the toughest sheriff on the drug problem that ravages their streets every day. He pointed out that 85% of all crimes that occur in Jasper County, South Carolina, are drug-related. Thus, the solution is eradicating drug activity in the area. The Award-Winning Sheriff in Jasper County, SC, presented five points to eliminate drug activity.

The first step, according to Sheriff Malphrus, is restructuring the department to have more deputies patrolling the community. He says the next step is creating an aggressive crime unit to drive the criminal element out of Jasper County.

“Placing deputies from this special team in high crime areas is the best way to deter drug activity and crimes that result from it. By heavily saturating these areas, the deputies can gather information and identify people in the area by making public contacts — with everyone walking, riding bikes, in cars, etc.,” states Sheriff Malphrus.

The third step is the creation of a neighborhood watch program in each community where the citizens can share information with one another and the sheriff’s department, the Candidate for Sheriff in Jasper County, SC states. For the fourth step, he stressed the need for the cooperation of other agencies in the county. Sheriff Malphrus said that a joint task force must be created to work on undercover operations, intelligence gathering and sharing, and to focus on drug investigations and enforcement in Jasper County.

Lastly, assistance from federal agencies is also essential in the war against drugs in Jasper County. “By seeking out these leaders in our time of need here in Jasper, we will be able to work together to investigate and prosecute criminal drug activity to the fullest,” he explains.

Meanwhile, the consistent recipient of the Crimestoppers Officer of the Year award also has a strong warning against drug dealers in Jasper Country. “The drug dealers in Jasper County have three options: abide by the laws, move their criminal enterprise out of Jasper County, or go to jail.”

Jasper County’s champion against drugs is a five-time recipient of the National Criminal Enforcement Association (NCEA) for the largest criminal interdiction seizure in the United States. He also earned the El Paso Intelligence Center award for the largest ecstasy seizure in the US in 2010. And in 2015, he received the Drug Enforcement Agency Recognition Challenge Coin.
