Earth Enterprise, the WBENC Certified Woman-Owned Company in New York City, and leader in environmentally friendly printing and packaging, has just surpassed a major threshold. By funding the planting of over 15,000 useful trees in Central America, they have become the standard-bearer in environmental conscientiousness. Having implemented proprietary software, Earth Enterprise calculates the “carbon footprint” for every one of their print and packaging jobs, which is then offset by planting useful trees. Between the years 2008 and 2019, the “Copan Botanical Research Station” located in Central America has been generously funded by Earth Enterprise owners Susan and Penelope Hort, who paid for the planting of thousands of diverse trees. In the year 2019 alone, a massive planting of over 15,000 trees took root, providing an economic boost in development in one of the poorest regions in the world. This brings the total trees planted by Earth Enterprises to over 43,000 since 2008.
These trees were planted in indigenous Mayan communities, generating further economic development, and are proving to be a valuable side effect of getting real carbon neutrality on Earth Enterprise projects. For many of the indigenous people these trees are their only means to earn a living. The “useful” trees, (food, nutritional supplement e.g. Herbal teas, etc.) including natural healthcare products (fibers, dyes, biofuels, natural agricultural pesticides), will provide economic incentives for environmental regeneration. Additionally, one of the largest accounting firms in Central America visits the region annually and counts the plantings. “We consistently endeavor to do what everyone should be doing in the fight for carbon neutrality. Continuing the planting of so many useful trees is just one of the many steps we are taking. We believe Earth Enterprise is a good example of what it means to be ‘green’. And as new methods come to light, we’ll investigate those as well, because ‘green’ is in our hearts as well as part of our business philosophy,” says Susan and Penelope Hort, Owner’s of Earth Enterprise.
