Better Health Chiropractic, a complementary medicine practice based in Manhattan, New York, has officially started their Stress Management And Resiliency Training (SMART) Program as of June 15th. The two-hour module, entitled Healing States of Mind, is the first of eight sessions of the program, which will be facilitated by Alex Eingorn, DC of the Harvard Medical School.

In the first SMART program module, Dr. Eingorn delivers a scientific perspective of how stress affects the human body and highlights the role of the amygdala in reacting to external stimuli, which results in stress. For many years, health experts believed that this almond-shaped neuron cluster has always influenced and impacted human emotions. This could be seen in the fight-or-flight response where there is a significant increase in blood pressure as well as excessive release of the hormones cortisol and adrenaline to the parasympathetic nervous system during threatening situations. However, most people are not aware of the physiological signs that trigger stress. Through the first SMART session, participants will be able to understand how the amygdala plays a huge part in how the human body reacts to stressful situations.
Dr. Eingorn will teach participants ways to manage stress in the Healing States of Mind module by means of learning proper stimulus response. One of the methods is journaling—participants will list down their usual signs and symptoms of stress. The other is self-report inventory, a questionnaire wherein the test takers will get to know more about their traits, strengths and other aspects of their personality. These methods will aid participants in becoming aware of their own behavioral responses to stress as well as learning how to control them. Specifically, they will learn how to keep their composure and act more rationally instead of impulsively responding to stressful stimuli.
As participants attend the upcoming sessions of the SMART Program, Dr. Eingorn expects that they will understand the brain’s complete role in controlling activities of the body as well as learn techniques for controlling the brain itself. Participants will also undertake stress-relieving activities such as meditation, stretching and yoga. Furthermore, they will be able to mitigate anxiety and generate traits that promote well-being, including positivity, happiness and gratitude.
Meanwhile, another lesson that Dr. Eingorn wishes to impart is the importance of chiropractic care in alleviating stress. Chiropractors are able to manipulate the spine and other misaligned joints in the body. If people do not have their issues with their joints treated, not only will the spinal cord be harmed but also the brain. For instance, information that has to be relayed to other parts of the body will be blocked. This means that digestion, heart regulation and blood detoxification will be impaired, among others. All of this will result in stress-related ailments, which will consequently weaken the immune system.
The favorable effects of Dr. Eingorn’s chiropractic care can be seen with two of his most recent clients. For instance, one of his patients, Angela, consulted him for diagnosis and therapy immediately after she was injured during sports training. She was amazed by Dr. Eingorn’s dedication in asking about her health even after her injuries were healed. Meanwhile, another client named Brian shares that Dr. Eingorn treats his patients with complete care and sensitivity. In addition, he was curious about Brian’s medical history, which is essential in providing chiropractic care.
Dr. Eingorn asserts that the eight SMART sessions will be beneficial to all participants in the long run. They will gain the capacity to exude fulfillment and creativity as well as think clearly. They will also deal with negative situations like confrontation and financial embarrassment more constructively and efficiently. All of these advantages will contribute to their physical, mental and spiritual health.
Upon receiving his certification from the Resilience and Stress Management Training from the Benson Henry Institute in Boston, Massachusetts two years ago, Dr. Eingorn was able to acquire a number of habits that enhanced the daily aspects of his own personal life. He became more emotionally stable, resilient, joyful and empathetic as well. Now that he is a licensed instructor, he is ready to launch the program to help others improve their quality of life.
