Villa Montessori Stone Ridge Invites Parents to Enroll Their Kids in Their S.T.E.A.M. Summer Program

Villa Montessori Stone Ridge, a preschool based in Chantilly, Virginia, is inviting parents to enroll their children in their ongoing S.T.E.A.M. (Science Technology Engineering Arts Mathematics) Summer Program. This is an ongoing summer program in the preschool and the students have been having fun as shown in photos posted on their Facebook page, such as https://www.facebook.com/VillaMontessoriStoneRidge/photos/a.883541548658236/1207806716231716/. There are three weeks remaining in the program and parents can still enroll their children for one, two, or all three weeks.

Carmen Warren, the School Director at Villa Montessori Stone Ridge, says, “The ongoing S.T.E.A.M Summer Program at Villa Montessori Stone Ridge has been a success. Our students are having a blast while learning tons of new things. Please note that there are still three weeks left in the program, and parents can still enroll their children for one, two or all three weeks, and let their kids experience our unique Montessori environment that is Reggio inspired. Parents are encouraged to contact the school for more information or to schedule a virtual tour.”

Villa Montessori Stone Ridge offers the Toddler class for toddlers who are 12 months to 2 years old; the Pre-Primary class for children ages 2 to 3 years old; the Primary class for children who are 3 to 6 years old; the Kindergarten program for children at least 4.5 years old; and the after school care program for ages 6 to 12 years old.

The students at Villa Montessori Stone Ridge are provided with sufficient opportunities for learning, having fun, and socializing. Their integrated curriculum includes reading, music, foreign language, cooking, and art. Furthermore, their programs include semi-monthly themes, including the environment, current events, world cultures, science, physical fitness, and more. While completing their homework, the students will have one-to-one teacher assistance, focusing on any subject that may need more emphasis and/or reinforcement. Those who would like to learn more about the preschool may want to follow their Twitter page at https://twitter.com/SR_montessori.

For the after-school care program, they have a private fleet of busses that can transport the students to and from local elementary schools, allowing teachers and students to quickly develop a schedule and routine. They currently serve the elementary schools at Goshen Post, Liberty, Buffalo Trail, and Pinebrook.

The curriculums at Villa Montessori Stone Ridge are guided by the Montessori Method, which was established by Dr. Maria Montessori. Dr. Montessori was inspired to revolutionize early childhood education through a new approach when she observed that children naturally want to explore their environments and learn from them. Thus, the Montessori classroom is carefully designed in such a way that the children are allowed to work independently and experience the joy of discovering things for themselves. The role of the teachers is to serve as guides for the children, showing them materials that the kids can choose from, again and again, until they ultimately gain mastery of ideas. While lessons are also provided, the goal is not to spoon-feed information to the children but rather to let them discover the answers by applying the auto-didactic and self-correcting materials that are provided in the Montessori classrooms.

What makes their Montessori curriculum different is that they are also Reggio inspired. The Reggio Emilia approach was developed by Loris Malaguzzi. It is an early childhood education approach that is designed to help children foster their higher critical thinking skills that are needed for them to come up with the questions that they have to ask in order to learn something about a certain subject. In the Reggio inspired approach, an emergent curriculum is offered that is based on a number of basic concepts to guide the kids in learning a particular subject. This is also based on the idea of Loris Malaguzzi that “the child has a hundred languages.” Thus, the children are made comfortable in allowing them to express their perceptions about the world through painting, sculpture, drawing, dance, movement, dramatic play, language arts, poetry, mathematics, and writing.
