SLFORCE LTD, a company that offers safe personal alarms and other related devices, has revealed that 1 in 5 women in the United States are victims of assault. The article also points out that it is not just women who are experiencing sexual harassment but also men. In fact, men and women of all ages are being targeted. While it may just start with the harasser calling out names or instructing the victim to smile, they will ultimately get more aggressive, touching private or inappropriate body parts. More about this blog post can be gleaned from https://www.slforce.com/blogs/recent/sexual-violence-in-the-us.
Shahar, a spokesperson for SLFORCE LTD, says, “Sexual harassment and rape are the less reported crimes in the US. The police remain unaware of about 63% of the rapes that have occurred. According to various researches, about 88% of the sexual harassment or rape on children are never reported. Greater than 90% of the sexual assaults that took place in college or university campuses don't get reported to the police.”
He continues, “However, after all these, compared to the statistics of other regions in the world, the harassment levels are less in the USA. For such a disgusting crime, all around the world measures are being taken and should be taken in even greater amounts to stop this. After all, each and everybody deserves their right of freedom.”
According to statistics in the US, 1 in 5 women and 1 in 71 men get raped. Approximately 91 percent of rape or sexual harassment victims are women and 9 percent are men. These are mostly perpetuated by partners who are intimate as reported by 51.1 percent of the female victims, while 52.4 percent of men have reported that they got raped by people they know, while 15.1 percent got raped by strangers. And approximately 8 percent of the rapes occurred while the victim is at work.
Meanwhile, children who experienced sexual harassment are most likely to suffer from post-traumatic symptoms, such as depression, nightmares, or serious harmful diseases. In the United States, 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys usually experience sexual harassment before they reach the age of 18. And 96 percent of the perpetrators of child sexual harassment are male and 76.8 percent are adults. More than a third of the women who got sexually abused before the age of 18, became victims again as adults.
It should be noted that most of the sexual harassment happens within the premises of a school, college or university. Approximately two-thirds of college students have experienced sexual harassment. And in a study done in 2002, 63.3 percent of the students at a university have admitted that they had committed rape and even repeated the crime, and 20 to 25 percent of women and 15 percent of men in colleges have experienced sexual harassment.
Meanwhile, the personal alarms that are being offered by SLFORCE LTD may be able to help people who are about to be sexually harassed or raped. It is good advice for potential victims to scream as loud as they can to attract other people’s attention. This will usually discourage the would-be perpetrator. However, potential victims are often too traumatized to remember to scream or are too scared to shout for help during such situations. The personal alarm makes it easier for potential victims to attract other people’s attention. This is because it produces an extremely loud 130dB alarm. It can easily be activated by pulling the pin out, and the sound can last for one hour. It can also be easily shut off by putting the pin back. It is easy to carry and it can easily be attached to a bag or backpack. Furthermore, it has a built-in LED flashlight for those dark places, especially when walking at night.
