But owners, no matter what their dog does and how tempted they are, should never yell or scream at their dogs.

Not only does this not work, yelling at a dog can actually make the situation worse. The dog doesn’t know why the owner is yelling. Shouting at the dog, whether over something he did hours ago or even a few minutes ago, is not addressing the dog’s behavior.

Yelling at a dog weakens any bonds that have formed between him and the owner and he may actually become fearful of the owner, likely making it more difficult to get him to respond favorably in the future.
