Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux, a sports restaurant based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and with franchisees all over the United States, is celebrating its 17th anniversary on September 9, 2020. This restaurant is known for its authentic and delicious Louisiana cuisine that is prepared fresh from scratch. The very first Walk-On’s was the Walk-On’s Bistreaux & Bar located near the Tiger Stadium of Louisiana State University (LSU). It was the realization of the dream of founders Brandon Landry and Jack Warner, who played as walk-ons for the LSU basketball team.
The two walk-ons got the idea of establishing a sports bar after visiting a number of the best restaurants and bars while traveling with their team across the country. Being walk-ons, who are unrecruited and unsigned athletes, they worked hard to maintain their positions on the LSU team. They eventually realized their dream of creating a sports restaurant that is focused on culture. On September 9, 2003, they opened their first sports bistreaux in the shadows of Tiger Stadium.
After nine years of dedication and hard work, expanding the business to various locations across south Louisiana, they were recognized in 2012 by ESPN as the #1 Sports Bar in America. In 2015, NFL All-Pro Quarterback Drew Brees joined the Walk-On’s team as co-owner. Also in 2015, they started franchising with the goal of expanding across the United States.
In 2017, they received a Menu Masters Award from Nation’s Restaurant News. In 2019, the Walk-On’s Game On Foundation was founded in an effort to give back to the community by rebuilding or refurbishing youth sports facilities, with two basketball courts in Baton Rouge being the first activations.
More recently, in 2020, Entrepreneur magazine recognized them as the No. 1 brand in Entrepreneur’s 2020 Top New Franchises Ranking. This ranking was based on a list of the top 100 companies that started franchising in the last five years. Today, Walk-On’s has plans for more than 100 locations across 15 states.
There’s really no better way to describe the uniqueness of Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux, the company says. They start every dish from scratch and use fresh ingredients to bring their mouthwatering, Cajun cuisine to life. And whether diners are here for dinner with the family, date night, cocktails with the girls or to watch a game on the big screen, they’re always happy to share their Louisiana culture.
