After leaving his job as a lawyer, Atif decided to engage more of his time in developing rental property in Bristol. In order to manage his rental properties, he was experiencing difficulties in finding letting agents who had a high standard in quality service. This led Atif to manage his rental properties himself with his own staff.
It did not take long for him to see a business opportunity. He decided to launch Intire, a lettings agency in Bristol, that offered a truly high standard of quality service to landlords. Not only did this company manage Atif's own properties, it also offered property management services to other landlords in Bristol.
So good was the company in the provision of its lettings and property management services that it did not take long before the company won industry awards over several consecutive years.
For building his company, Atif first developed a list of all the services that would give an investor in residential rental properties total peace of mind.
He then defined processes that were needed for each service that his company delivered to landlords. He delegated the tasks in each process to his team and defined key performance metrics to measure the quality of work being delivered.
Whilst creating this property management company, Atif did not forget to take care of himself – a mistake that many entrepreneurs make. He forced himself to work “on” the company then always “in” the company by delegating properly. Many entrepreneurs like to insert themselves so much in the day to day of the business, that the business becomes overly reliant on them. Atif avoided this trap.
He also took care of his own health by exercising regularly. This is another mistake that entrepreneurs make: They work hard and forget to take care of their own health.
