Dr. Jason Brinton Featured in USA Today Article Discussing Coronavirus Transmission Through the Eyes

Dr. Jason Brinton, founder and LASIK surgeon at Brinton Vision in St. Louis, was featured in an article for USA Today. Dr. Thomas Steinemann, spokesperson for the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Joseph Fair, Virologist and NBC contributor, and Dr. Brinton were interviewed on the potential of catching COVID-19 through the eyes. Despite taking precautions such as wearing a mask and regularly washing his hands, Fair was infected with COVID–19. He believes he was infected through his eyes.

Dr. Steinemann and Dr. Brinton both provided advice and information on the risks and likelihood of infection via the eyes, using Fair as an example case. While Fair is fairly certain that his eyes were his method of infection, and Dr. Steinemann certainly advises against rubbing one's eyes to minimize risk, Dr. Brinton states that there are other risk factors at play.

Dr. Brinton has been contributing to the discussion on eye care throughout the coronavirus pandemic via a variety of news outlets as well as through his St. Louis LASIK practice website to keep patients and the public updated about health and safety questions.
